I probably talk too much about comfort zones. But it's true. Big things happen when you can get outside of that comfort zone. This can be physically, socially, mentally, etc. Go for it, I bet you might find some growth there.

The incredible story of Anthony Robles. Born with only one leg, Anthony doesn't let his challenges stop him from working hard and becoming the NCAA National Wrestling Champion. No matter what challenges life throws your way. Always give 100%, no excuses. You can achieve great things.
Raise your hand if you've ever struggled with push-ups? I know I have. Making sure that we have proper form and mechanics is key, especially to keep our shoulders safe. But first we have to have some strength. Check out this website for ideas on what you can do to build up your strength.
“He would say that when your mind is telling you you’re done, you’re really only 40 percent done. And he had a motto: If it doesn’t suck we don’t do it. And that was his way of forcing us to get uncomfortable to figure out what our baseline was and what our comfort level was and just turning it upside-down.”
If you don't know this about me yet, you most likely will soon. I love quotes. If you find some good ones, please send them my way!
For students own safety when coming to PE the expectation is that students are wearing appropriate shoes as it is essential for physical activity. Sometimes children’s footwear is chosen based upon what is aesthetically pleasing rather than what is best for safety and efficient movement. Style is often the major reason a particular pair of shoes is purchased (French, Kinnison, & Silliman-French, 2009), and are often not suitable for physical activity. Athletic tennis shoes are built to provide support to your foot and ankle during physical activity, and as a result they help reduce the risk of fractures and sprains while active. We sometimes see leg, ankle and foot injuries that could have been prevented if proper athletic footwear had been worn. Please understand that the necessity of wearing proper shoes is 100% instruction and safety driven. Running shoes, basketball shoes, cross training shoes, and tennis shoes are ideal in a physical education setting. While Skateboarding shoes are not ideal for physical activity they are acceptable in P.E. What an ideal PE shoe looks like: -Shoe fits the foot, not slipping out -Shoe has a back where heel is not exposed -Shoe has an appropriate bottom where running will not hurt the foot. Kali Smith and Jeremi Broadhurst, TECS PE Teachers “In 1962, JFK gave a speech to the nation challenging them to make a “great national effort.” He held the La Sierra High PE up as the model for the nation to follow. 4,000 high schools followed this program. This is the only known digitized copy of his speech. The footage shows one high school PE class. Remember, this is a normal PE class at the high school. This was PE 50 years ago in America!” |
